Configuring a Component

Components by themselves when inserted are just empty shells that need their settings configured. Each component has different requirements for properly displaying them, so be sure to check a component's page in our Component Library to understand how to set them up individually.

Configuring a component on a page involves selecting the Wrench icon from the component toolbar. This will open a pop-up CQ Authoring Dialog window displaying the settings available for the user to set.

The CQ Authoring Dialog

1. Component Title

The component title is displayed for the currently selected component in the top-left of the pop-up dialog.

2. Dialog Actions

Dialog actions are crucial to component setup. There are currently 4 actions available on almost all components:

  • Help - The Help button will open a browser window and try to connect to an Adobe Experience League help article for the component, if supported.
  • Toggle Fullscreen - Toggles the view of the CQ Authoring Dialog between the current view and a fullscreen view.
  • Cancel - Will cancel all updates made to the component since the dialog has been opened and closes the dialog.
  • Done/Accept - Will accept all updates made to the component, closes the dialog, and updates the component view on the page.

3. Component Tabs

Component tabs are displayed for the current component. Some components may have more tabs than others. Selecting a tab will underline and highlight the name to indicate selection.

The selected tab's set of fields will then display underneath.

4. Current Tab Settings

The area underneath the tabs is reserved for the fields that display for the selected tab. As users travel between tabs this field area will update.

The fields listed are where author's will need to specify certain options, paths to data sources, and even setting dynamic functionality for components that use it.

Some fields are required* and are denoted with an asterisk (*) after the field name. Not filling in a required field will result in the tab and field highlighting in red and displaying a red warning icon. Users cannot click the "Done" button and accept changes while required fields are empty.

Remember that updates do not save until the Done button is clicked.
