Use descriptive Words or Phrases

When creating a web page, it is important to use descriptive words or phrases in the names. Imagine the confusion of our users if every page on our site used the following naming scheme: page-1, page-2, page-3.  Unless an individual possesses some sort of superpower, it would be impossible to decifer what information may be on those pages by looking at the page name. You may be asking yourself, "Why does it matter?  Won't site visitors just be clicking on a link to get to a page?  Who actually looks at the URL?" The answer is probably more than you think.

Using descriptive words and phrases is even more when working with fellow web authors. Web authors need to look at a page name to gauge some sort of idea of what it may include. If a site contains one or two hundred pages and all have generic names, it would result in lost time and lost revenue simply by trying to navigate the site structure.

This is a simple concept yet an important one. So make sure to use words or phrase that are descriptive.
