Categorizing Forms for Modernization

If you're modernizing a batch of forms rather than building one, work through them in order of complexity instead of tackling them randomly. This builds familiarity with the AEM environment on straightforward forms before you hit anything technically demanding.

  • Phase 1 - Quick Wins: Start with straightforward, linear forms. These build confidence and comfort with the AEM environment.
  • Phase 2 - Leveling Up: As you gain momentum, move on to more complex conversions, such as those involving tables or conditional logic.

Use the scoring guide below to sort each form into a level. The DoIT Web Services team is available to help whenever you hit a technical hurdle or acessibility question you can't resolve on your own.

Scoring Guide

Level 1: Green Light — Score 1-3

  • Fields: text boxes, checkboxes, radio buttons
  • Added features: static drop-downs, date pickers, file uploads
  • Layout: single column, easy to read top-to-bottom

Level 2: Yellow Light — Score 4-6

  • Logic: fields show or hide based on user answers
  • Organization: uses panels to group fields
  • Signatures: requires electronic signatures — see Do You Need a Signature? to confirm the signature is actually required before scoring it here

Level 3: Red Light — Score 7-10

  • Tables: any grid-style data entry or "Add Row" functionality
  • Math: needs to calculate totals or perform logic-based formulas
  • Integrations: needs to pull data from other systems or databases
