Search Results

Description

Search Results is a component designed to display search results based on the users' query.

Authoring

The Search Results component only needs to be authored once per site. Start by creating a page using the Open Page Template and authoring the Search Results component. Then make sure to link this search page to the Search Bar component embedded as part of the Header, and any Search Bar components you've added to a page.

Primary Tabs

  • Choose to build a global search or agency search component. The former fetches results from all Illinois sites and the latter fetches results only within your site.
  • Content Types: Select one or more content types that are relevant to your site. These will be the tabs that your users can use to filter search results including Everything, Services, News, Events, Documents, and FAQs.  If you don't have any of these events, you can uncheck them so the filter does not display.
  • Black Listed Tags: You can omit search results by tag by selecting those tags here.
  • Enter a number for pagination.
  • Enter an alert message for the no data scenario.
  • Configure the background color for the header section.
  • Configure the highlight color for highlighting the first 3 search results.

Custom Tabs

you can add custom filters to your search results which will filter results based on a parent folder or filter you select.

  • Tab Name: Indicate how you want the tab to be labeled on your search results page navigation.
  • Add a folder to pull into this custom tab:
    • Type: Only assets are supported at this time
    • Root Path: Select the parent folder which contains the assets you would like to add to this filter.
    • Tags: If you want to filter items in this tab by tags, select them here.
    • Choose filter Sections: if you want users to control results by filters, select those filters here.
    • Choose Results Display: select which fields you want to display in these tabbed results.  Note that the asset Title will automatically be displayed and linked in the results.

Search Index

Search results can be built using a custom Elastic Search Index. Please contact the DoIT WCM team to create a custom index.

Configuring the embedded components

  • A Title component is embedded as part of this component. Overwrite the text as needed.
  • A Search Bar component is also embedded. Make sure to link the search results page to it.
  • For every content type tab, you can add additional components to the left side filter area. Go to the container for the content type tab and add any components as needed.

Example

Below is a sample Search Results component. Please note that a custom tab has been added which points to a folder of "Puppy PDFs" which allow the user to filter results to display only items with this folder.
